After many years as an audio electronics manufacturer for other companies, Dan Laufman wanted to introduce his own brand of electronics built around two of his passions: music and home theater. The idea was to bring the same quality, high-end equipment that he was manufacturing for others and offer them directly to the consumers, thereby eliminating all middlemen and making available to everyone the same equipment that fueled his passion.
To establish any company, you must first have a name. We need one word that says so much about who we are and what we do. For Dan, that word was EMOTIVA. Translating to emotion and signifying the passion put into every product we make, Emotiva Audio Corporation was born. We are passionate about what we do and bring that passion to every aspect of who we are and how we do business. From attention to detail in the design and manufacturing to our commitment to customers, we believe in what we do. We bring you, the customer, audiophile quality equipment at the best possible prices.
Thank you for visiting Emotiva's website, where passion and technology become one.
ABOUT EMOTIVA AMPLIFIERS
AMPLIFIER CLASSES:
There are many different type of amplifier classes. Emotiva Audio currently produces Class A/B and Class H amps.
POWER RATINGS:
We don't play games when testing our amps. We want to know what they're capable of, and deliver as accurate a wattage rating as possible. We use state of the art Audio Precision© gear, widely accepted as an industry standard. They are tested at full throttle, with all channels being driven as hard as possible. This brings the power supply to it's weakest point, and that's where the output is rated. This rating is the MINIMUM output.
For example - the XPA-5 is rated at 200 watts per channel (8 ohms). This means that when it was tested, with all five channels running at once and being driven to its limits, it was able to produce 200 watts per channel without clipping. That's it's lowest wattage output. This is not a 'peak' rating, but rather, a 'conintuous' rating. The XPA-5 can comfortably produce 1,000 watts RMS.
Power: Receiver Vs. Separates
Receivers are often tested one channel at a time, and each channel is rated at peak performance. The wattage output from each channel is combined for an overall rating. However, when all channels are being driven together, and continuously, the power output can be drastically lower than the rating. A receiver that has a 100 watt per channel rating may realistically deliver 50-60 watts per channel when all channels are being used.
This is why adding a separate amp to your receiver setup can make a big difference in what you're hearing. The simple physics of a larger transformer, and the ability to deliver continuous, clean power means more detail and punch. More headroom means better sound at any volume level.
