Dolby Atmos and DTS X: Path to the Future

When the XMC-1 was created, it was designed to deliver the absolute ultimate in sound quality, and to include all the most important features available at the time – and the critical acclaim we’ve received from reviewers and customers shows that we’ve lived up to that lofty goal. However, a truly great product is one that you can enjoy today – and continue to enjoy for a long time to come. To that end, we decided that the XMC-1 had to be modular and upgradable. Unlike other products, whose upgrade path has always turned out to be a dead end, the XMC-1 has a clear path to the future so that you can enjoy your investment in superb sound for a long, long time.

And, on that note, we’re pleased to announce the first few steps that will take our XMC-1 proudly into the future.
XMC-1 Enhancements

The XMC-1 is fully modular – which means that, as home theater continues to evolve, and new technologies and features become available, we will be continuing to offer enhancements that add new functionality to your XMC-1.

At this time, we are pleased to announce the first set of enhancements which we will be offering for the XMC-1:

XMC-1 Technology Enhancement 1: HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 (V2)

NO LONGER AVAILABLE – SUPERSEDED BY HDMI ENHANCEMENT (V3)

XMC-1 Technology Enhancement 2: HDMI 2.0b and HDCP 2.2 (V3)

Replacement HDMI board (V3) upgrades ALL HDMI inputs and outputs on the XMC-1 to HDMI 2.0b with HDCP 2.2; including full support for HDR10 and Dynamic HDR.

  • Hardware – replaces original XMC-1 HDMI board or HDMI (V2) board.
  • Will be included standard on all units shipped after the board is available.
  • Supports HDMI 2.0b, with HDCP 2.2, and the full 18 Gbps data rate on all ports.
  • Supports standard 4k UHD video, HDR10, and Dynamic HDR on all ports.
  • Installed by Emotiva (at no cost – recommended)
  • Available Q4 2017.
  • Available as an upgrade to current XMC-1 owners for $499 (including shipping).

SPECIAL NOTE: The original HDMI (V2) enhancement upgrade was provided at no cost to XMC-1 owners who had purchased their XMC-1 from us at the full $2499 retail price. Many chose to take advantage of this offer, but some chose to wait. We are pleased to be able to offer the current new HDMI (V3) enhancement upgrade AT NO COST TO OWNERS OF AN ORIGINAL XMC-1 WITH HDMI 1.4b, WHO PURCHASED THEIR XMC-1 FROM US AT THE FULL $2499 RETAIL PRICE, AND DID NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANY PREVIOUS HDMI (V2) UPGRADE OFFER.

XMC-1 Technology Enhancement 3: Dolby Atmos and DTS-X

Replacement processor/decoder board adds support for Dolby Atmos and DTS-X

  • Adds support for Dolby Atmos (up to 7.2.4) and DTS-x.
  • Hardware – replaces original digital processor decoder board.
  • Repurposes Mix Outputs and Zone 2 Analog Outputs
(after the upgrade Zone 2 will be available via digital outputs).
  • Installed by Emotiva (at no cost – factory installation REQUIRED).
  • Available Q1 2018.
  • Available as an upgrade to any XMC-1 without Atmos & DTS-X for $599
    (including shipping).
  • The Dolby Atmos & DTS-X upgrade REQUIRES the latest (V3) HDMI board
(any XMC-1 with a (V1) or (V2) HDMI board must be upgraded to the (V3) board).

SPECIAL NOTE: The Atmos and DTS-X enhancement is considered to be an OPTIONAL upgrade for the XMC-1. Once the enhancement upgrade is available, the XMC-1 will be available in two versions – with or without the enhancement upgrade. The retail price of the XMC-1 WITHOUT Dolby Atmos and DTS-X will be $2499; the retail price of the XMC-1 WITH the Dolby Atmos and DTS-X enhancement factory installed and tested will be $2999.

SPECIAL OFFER: Because shipping is included in the cost of each enhancement upgrade, if you choose to purchase both at the same time, a discount of $100 will be applied – so the total price for both, if purchased at the same time, will be $998 – including shipping.

Beyond All Expectations
The XMC-1 redefines everything you know about affordable home theater. With a true balanced audiophile signal path, high-performance HDMI video switching that supports up to 4k/60Hz, and Dirac Live for Emotiva™ room correction, this made-in-the-USA masterpiece offers audio performance and sound quality that competes with the best analog preamps, combined with video performance and features that rival home theater preamp/processors costing up to ten times as much.

The World’s Most Advanced Automatic Room Correction System
Every XMC-1 we sell comes complete with Dirac Live for Emotiva™, which is our own custom version of Dirac Live, the most advanced room correction system available today. Dirac Live has capabilities far beyond those of ordinary consumer-grade room correction, and operates in both the time and frequency domains to take you dramatically closer to the action in today’s blockbuster HD movies, and lift the veil between high-resolution music files and the music itself.

The powerful Dirac Live engine is built into the XMC-1 itself, and every XMC-1 we sell includes its own calibrated measurement microphone, and a license for the Dirac Live LE for Emotiva software. Advanced users can purchase a copy of Dirac Live Full for Emotiva, which works with the same Dirac engine in the XMC-1, and offers several ways to customize the room correction experience – including the ability to create custom room response Target Curves, and the option of using third-party calibrated microphones.

XMC-1 Now With Available Dirac Full
Yes! Go beyond the capabilities of the included Dirac LE with Dirac Full. Create custom target curves, adjust frequency ranges for correction, create and rearrange speaker groups—you have ultimate room-correction power with Dirac Full. Please note that both Dirac LE and Dirac Full licenses are not transferrable, and that Dirac Full sales are final.

Precise Powerful Manual Control
The XMC-1 is all about power and control, and it gives you unprecedented flexibility to configure your system to sound just the way you want it to. Advanced bass management capabilities support stereo subwoofers, and let you set independent crossover points for each set of speakers. Two separate sets of 11 band parametric EQs let you create any response curve imaginable, or import settings directly from Room EQ Wizard (REW). Those settings can also be saved as files and reused later, or modified directly using a simple XML or text editor. Precision bass and treble controls with selectable turnover points make simple response adjustments easy, and true Fletcher-Munson loudness compensation keeps your music sounding good, even at very low listening levels.

Ready for Ultra High Definition Audio—and Video
3600 MIPS of processing power and audiophile-grade DACs mean the XMC-1 is ready to decode every high-res surround sound format with full resolution and quality. All of the eight 9 Gbps HDMI inputs and dual HDMI outputs on the XMC-1 support video modes up to 4k/60, including 3D; and one HDMI input and one output support the HDCP 2.2 copy protection needed to play the latest UltraHD 4K video sources.

Ultimate Flexibility and Convenience
Forget planned obsolescence. The XMC-1 is completely modular and upgradable to meet future standards. All main system components can be upgraded as needed, while our custom Linux software assures expandability for years to come.

Made in the USA
The XMC-1 is the first product made in our all-new Nashville, Tennessee Production Center, which allows us exceptional control over every facet of the design and production process for ultimate quality.
