Overview

Act TWO: The legacy of the XMC-1 lives on in our certified refurbished program.

We think products can be repurposed and reused for more than one lifecycle, and that is why we came up with an incredible second life for our legacy XMC-1, 7.2 channel preamp processor. When XMC-1s are traded in by customers for our newer Atmos based processors, they still have many years of service life left in them for use in movie and music systems. In light of that, we've created a new recycling protocol where we carefully inspect, refurbished, update, and renew XMC-1s. By giving the XMC-1 an Act Two (movie reference since we're home theater geeks), we've found a way to be more sustainable and eco-friendly, while at the same time provide customers another incredible audiophile-quality AV preamp processor choice.

The XMC-1 is a rock-solid AV Preamp/processor that offers incredible fidelity and modern connectivity. All certified XMC-1s feature our latest 18 GHz, 4k UHD HDMI video switching with support for Dolby Vision, HDR, HDCP 2.2, dual outputs, and supports Dirac Live™.

One of our favorite applications is to use the XMC-1 as the heart of a high-end 2.0, 2.1, or better yet, 2.2 stereo system! The XMC-1's two-channel performance is legendary, and it's worth buying one for this application alone. It features a balanced and fully differential stereo signal path with amazingly low noise and distortion and is on-par with the very best two-channel gear available today. The XMC-1 also has a USB DAC, DSD support over USB and HDMI, extensive digital and analog input and outputs, HDMI signal management, Dirac Live room correction capability, sophisticated bass management, and extensive parametric EQ. If you've been looking to build an advanced two-channel system that honors pure analog performance but has the tools and capabilities to also integrate into the modern, digital world, this is a no brainer. In terms of value, fidelity, and advanced ability, the XMC-1 remains unmatched and is in a class of its own.

Our new XMC-1's have a unique Certified Refurbished distinction, are in perfect working order, appear nearly new, come with all accessories, and a non-transferable factory 1-year warranty. We can offer this program because all of our flagship preamp processors are designed and assembled with great care in-house.

Redefining Home Theater

The XMC-1 redefines everything you know about home theater equipment; great audio performance doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg, and neither does support for the latest cutting-edge 4k video formats. The advanced audio circuitry in the XMC-1 delivers the superb sound quality of a premium separate audiophile component; the high-performance video switching circuitry supports the latest 4k UHD and HDR video formats, and the powerful menu and control system ties it all together into one easy to use system. The XMC-1 is designed, tested, and assembled right here in the USA, at our facility in Franklin, Tennessee.

We encourage you to check out some of the many reviews of the XMC-1 that have been published - by both professional reviewers and end users. You’ll find that they all agree that the XMC-1 is unique among processors for its superb sound quality and its combination of powerful features and ease of use.

The Ideal Processor For Home Theater Fans And Audiophiles

The XMC-1 delivers the level of audio performance and features you would expect from separate high-end audiophile components, but with the XMC-1 you don't have to sacrifice audio performance to get the latest home theater and surround sound features.

Operating Modes for the Discerning Listener:

When used as a fully featured home theater processor, the XMC-1 starts by decoding the audio from your movie soundtracks and surround sound discs with the best possible sound quality.  Sophisticated bass management directs the low-frequency components of the audio spectrum to your subwoofer, and the advanced Dirac Live automatic room correction system carefully optimizes the sound from each channel for your speakers and your listening room. This finely tuned digital audio is then converted into high-quality analog audio by precision DACs and sent to your amplifiers - via a high-quality analog ladder network volume control and audiophile grade analog circuitry.

If you listen to high-resolution audio downloads or other high-quality music sources which don't require all of that advanced processing, the XMC-1 offers several purist audiophile modes. High-quality digital sources, both PCM and DSD, can be converted directly to analog by the precision high-performance DACs, bypassing all of the more advanced processing. And, if you have analog sources which don't require any processing at all, they can be routed directly to the superb quality fully balanced analog signal path, bypassing all digital processing.

Support For The Latest Audio and Video Formats

Home theater video is continually evolving to deliver a sharper picture, more colors, and more advanced features - which can make it difficult to keep track of what you actually need to take advantage of the latest video content and this year's 4k displays. The XMC-1 has eight HDMI video inputs and two HDMI video outputs, all of which support HDMI 2.0b and HDCP 2.2. The XMC-1 supports the full HDMI 2.0b 18 gBps video data rate, so it supports full 4k UHD video, at frame rates up to 4k/60, with full 12-bit color, and 4.4.4 chroma subsampling. It also supports static and dynamic HDR, including Dolby Vision, for a brilliant picture, with pure, intense colors, and remarkable contrast. The XMC-1 provides everything you need to get the most from the latest streaming content and 4k UHD Blu-Ray discs.

True Audiophile Sound Quality

The XMC-1's two-channel performance is legendary, and it's worth buying one for this application alone. It features a balanced and fully differential stereo signal path with amazingly low noise and distortion and is on-par with the very best two-channel gear available today. The XMC-1 also has a USB DAC, DSD support over USB and HDMI, extensive digital and analog input and outputs, HDMI signal management, Dirac Live room correction capability, sophisticated bass management, and extensive parametric EQ. If you've been looking to build an advanced two-channel system that honors pure analog performance but has the tools and capabilities to also integrate into the modern, digital world, this is a no brainer

Advanced Menu System And Configuration Options

Modern home theater systems can be very complex. To make the XMC-1 powerful and flexible, yet simple to configure and operate, we developed our own custom menu and control system. Frequently used options are easy to find and access, more in-depth options are arranged logically, and the current status is always clearly displayed on the informative front panel display and the highly configurable on-screen display. The XMC-1 can be controlled from the front panel, from its iconic solid metal remote control, or using the handy remote control App, which is available for Apple and Windows computers, and Android phones. The XMC-1 can also be integrated into most universal remote and whole-home control systems.

Because the XMC-1 is all about power and control, it gives you unprecedented flexibility to configure your system to sound just the way you want it to. Advanced bass management supports stereo subwoofers, and lets you set independent crossover points for each set of speakers. Two entirely separate sets of manual parametric equalizers let you create custom response curves, and can import settings directly from the popular Room EQ Wizard (REW). Settings can be saved as files, exported to a computer, and saved settings can be modified using a simple XML or text editor. Precision bass and treble controls, separate from the more advanced EQ settings, make simple response adjustments easy, and true Fletcher-Munson loudness compensation keeps your music sounding good, even at very low listening levels.

The World's Most Advanced Automatic Room Correction System

One of the main features of the XMC-1 is its capability to run a Dirac Live automatic room correction system, which operates across both the time and frequency domains, taking you dramatically closer to the action in today's blockbuster movies, and lifting the veil between you and your high-resolution music files. Dirac Live is widely considered to be the most advanced room correction system available today. Certified Refurbished units can upgrade to Dirac Live Full for Emotiva for a small fee. Dirac Live Full for Emotiva adds the ability to create custom target curves, select specific frequency ranges for correction, rearrange how speakers are grouped, and use your own third-party calibration microphone.

Designed and Assembled in the USA with Globally Sourced Components

Assembling products here in the USA gives us exceptional control over every facet of the design process, which helps us build the highest quality products for our customers while minimizing unnecessary complications and production delays. The XMC-1 was the first product to be assembled in our all-new production center here in Franklin, Tennessee - just south of Nashville.

The XMC-1 Certified Refurbished has some important distinguishing features to note:

  • The price of our XMC-1 Certified Refurbished is $1199. That includes a non-transferable 1-year parts and labor warranty.
  • The XMC-1 supports Dirac Live™ room correction. The software key is NOT included for Dirac Live. If you're familiar with the XMC-1, it originally retailed for $2499, so the Certified Refurbished is a fantastic deal for those that are interested. It's why we have special terms and conditions.
  • VERY IMPORTANT: The XMC-1 Certified Refurbished processors cannot be traded in as part of our current processor trade-in programs. We're considering these a whole new product, and the units themselves come with a special distinction. We even give them a unique serial number on the back. (tip: For warranty transfer people, you'll want to verify that the unit you're acquiring is or is not a Certified Refurbished unit if a trade-in is important to you.)
  • Our new Certified Refurbished program is different from our Factory Renewed items that we sell from time to time. Factory Renewed items are returns and open stock that are periodically available for purchase, and they have full product warranties. They're not the previously loved and refurbished units (with special new serial numbers) that fit the Certified Refurbished criteria.
  • Because the Certified Refurbished XMC-1 is already being sold at a special low price – this price may not be combined with any other discounts (like our 25% Discount For Life).

NOTE:

The measurement and calibration module of the Dirac Live software runs on a compatible computer provided by the user.

This version of Dirac Live is a special version that has been customized to work specifically with the XMC-1.

This version will run on modern computers running Microsoft Windows – from Windows 7 thru Windows 10.

This version will also run on Apple computers running MacOS 10.9 (Mavericks) or MacOS 10.10 (Yosemite).

It will NOT run on Apple computers running newer versions of MacOS and it will NOT run on iPads or other IOS devices. (See Dirac System Requirements on the Specs tab for more details.)
