Some of the best adventure movies, and the scariest nightmares, share a scene in which, no matter how fast you run, the prize just keeps getting further and further away, and you can never quite seem to reach it. Have you ever noticed that same feeling creeping up on you when you set out to put together a really great stereo or home theater system? Every time you buy a new AVR with the latest HDMI version, add the speakers and amplifiers you need to rock the latest immersive audio format, and sit down to watch a movie or listen to some music, they go and announce a new version, and your cutting-edge super-system becomes… (cue ominous music)… just a little bit obsolete.
Here at Emotiva, we’re pretty sure you hate that feeling just as much as we do, so we’re doing our best to make sure that it doesn’t happen to you. That’s why we made sure our XMC-1 pre/pro was modular and upgradeable. When we introduced the XMC-1, it included support for the latest HDMI 1.4b video standard… then, when the new 4k UHD HDR standard came out, we upgraded the XMC-1 to support it. We’ve also got an upgrade on the way for the XMC-1 that will add support for Dolby Atmos and DTS-X. And, yes, those upgrades will work with every XMC-1 we’ve ever sold; no worries about obsolescence there. When our new RMC-1 is released, it will start out with more channels and more features than a fully loaded XMC-1, but it will still be modular and upgradeable. On the RMC-1, not only can individual boards be upgraded, but we also included three external expansion bays that can be used to house a variety of powerful expansion modules.
Amplifiers don’t become obsolete nearly as fast as surround sound gear; an amplifier that works well today will still have a place in your system tomorrow or next week. What does change is the number of channels you need. Last year seven channels was plenty; this year you need at least eleven, to power those height speakers; and we hear next year you’ll want even more. That’s why our third generation XPA amplifiers are modular. You can purchase an XPA amp with just the number of channels you need today, then add more channels later, when you need them. And, if you need a lot of channels, or you need the power of our XPA-DR high-powered fully differential amplifier modules, you can mix and match multiple chassis in a fully modular, and fully upgradeable amplifier system.
Of course, some people take a different approach, and plan from the start to minimize what they spend on the equipment they buy now. That way, when things change, they can retire their current equipment to a basement or playroom, or gift it to a favored relative, and use the money they’ve been saving to purchase all new equipment. We prefer the modular approach - because it enables you to spend more time listening to the really good stuff. However, if you want the absolute best performance and sound quality, at the lowest possible cost, we offer our BasX line of equipment. Our BasX MC-700 pre/pro, and our BasX amps, aren’t modular. However, they sound really good, and offer a remarkable amount of bang for your buck.
Whichever way you choose to do, we’ve got you covered.
