Whether you're ready to trade in your current processor for a brand-new model or upgrade the one you already own, Emotiva’s new programs make it easier than ever to enjoy the latest in HDMI 2.1 and 8K performance.

This guide outlines the two available upgrade paths and what to expect from each.

What Is an AV Processor and Why Should You Upgrade?

An AV processor is the control center of your home theater. It switches inputs, decodes immersive surround sound like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X Pro, and routes pristine video to your display and clean audio to your amplifier.

Upgrading to a processor with HDMI 2.1 opens the door to:

• 8K UHD video and higher bandwidth

• Features like eARC, Dynamic HDR, and ALLM

• Better sound and video quality

• Compatibility with modern sources and formats

If you're currently using an Emotiva XMC-2, RMC-1L, or RMC-1, you're eligible for one of two upgrade programs: the Trade-In Program or the CR8 Upgrade Program.

Trade-In Program (For original owners only)

Trade in your qualifying Emotiva processor and receive 50% of your original purchase price (pre-tax, after discounts) as credit toward a new XMC-2+ or RMC-1+.

Eligible Trade-In Paths

Note: The Trade-In Program is available to original owners only. Proof of original purchase is required. Secondhand units are not eligible for trade-in credit but may qualify for the CR8 Upgrade Program.

About the XMC-2+ and RMC-1+

• Full HDMI 2.1 video switching with support for 8K UHD HDR

• Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, and other immersive surround formats

• Dirac Live room correction

• Web-based control interface

• New TI Burr Brown Analog Board

The RMC-1+ includes enhanced internal components and expanded connectivity for larger or more complex systems.

What to Expect

• Trade-in requests are processed in batches, in the order received.

• You can submit your request at any time, but we will contact you when it’s your turn in line.

• If you are not ready to move forward when contacted, your request will be moved to the back of the line.

• Once approved, you’ll receive a pre-paid shipping label and instructions.

• Your new processor will ship after we receive and inspect your trade-in.

• Trade-ins are final sale and cannot be returned.

• Expect a short period of system downtime.

You’ll receive milestone updates during the process:

• When your unit arrives at our facility

• When it is being inspected

• When the inspection is complete

• When your new unit ships

We appreciate your patience while we complete each trade-in carefully and fairly.

Warranty Information

All new Plus-series processors purchased through the Trade-In Program include a 5-year transferable warranty from the date of shipment.

CR8 Upgrade Program (Open to original and secondhand owners)

The CR8 Upgrade retrofits your existing processor with HDMI 2.1 hardware and updated internals, transforming it into a Certified Refurbished 8K (CR8) model.

Pricing

• RMC-1 → $1,699

• XMC-2 or RMC-1L → $1,499

What’s Included

Each CR8 processor receives a new serial number confirming its upgraded status. Customers are responsible for shipping the unit to Emotiva. Return shipping is covered within the continental U.S.

Optional Expansion Modules for RMC-1

• Phono Preamp Module – Adds support for MM and MC cartridges

• Balanced Input Module – Adds two additional fully balanced analog stereo inputs

These modules are not included in the base upgrade price and are billed separately upon request. Installation and testing by Emotiva is included; self-installation is also available.

What to Expect

• Upgrade requests are processed in batches, in the order received.

• You can submit your request at any time, and we will contact you when your processor is next in line.

• If you're not ready to move forward at that time, your request will be moved to the back of the queue.

• You’ll be responsible for shipping your unit to us when requested.

• Turnaround time is typically 2–4 weeks from receipt.

• When your processor arrives

• When it goes on the bench for upgrade

• When the upgrade is complete

• When your unit ships

Warranty Information

CR8-upgraded processors include a 2-year warranty, or the balance of the original warranty — whichever is longer. For secondhand owners, the 2-year warranty begins from the date your upgrade is completed. CR8 warranties are not transferable.

• I submitted my Trade-In/Upgrade form. Now what?

We’re currently processing a high volume of requests, so processing can take 2–6 weeks depending on demand. Orders are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

To help manage production and ensure smooth fulfillment, we release product availability in batches. Because of this process and the volume of requests, we're may not be able to provide specific quotes concerning your place in line.

• Can I upgrade/trade-in more than one processor?

Yes, you may upgrade or trade in more than one processor, provided each meets eligibility requirements. Each request will be processed seperately, in the other they were received. 

• If I'm doing the Trade-In, what do I ship back to you?

We require the unit to be in good working condition in a factory box and all original accessories including your Dirac Interface Box.

Accessories include:

Room Correction Microphone
USB to XLR Digitizer Mic Cable
PR1 Remote Control
Manual
Dirac Interface Box (the black box only from the Dirac Kit)

Note: If any of these items are missing, the cost will be deducted from your trade-in value.

• Am I responsible for shipping costs?

Trade-In Program: A pre-Paid label provided for inbound shipping (Contigious US only) and outbound shipping is free. 

CR8 Program- You are responsible for inbound shipping. We ship the upgraded back to you free of charge.

All trade-in and upgrade terms, pricing, and availability are subject to change without notice. Quotes are valid for 15 days. Only XMC-2, RMC-1L, and RMC-1 processors are eligible.

Trade-In unit owners must have made their purchase directly from Emotiva. Any orders from dealers do not qualify. 

These programs are designed to deliver long-term value and performance and we’re committed to making sure every upgrade is done right, not rushed.
