    Each XPA Gen3 amplifier chassis can be populated with anywhere between two and seven modules, each of which can be a High-Powered Single Channel Module or a Stereo Module. Modules of both types can be combined in the same chassis, offering you unheard-of flexibility to build the exact amplifier configuration you need. To create your perfect amplifier, use the Channel Configuration selector to pick the combination of modules you need. Each option has a two digit model number. The number to the left of the decimal point shows you how many High-Powered Single Channel Modules you have; the number to the right shows you how many Stereo Modules you have. Remember that each Stereo Module gives you two amplifier channels.

    The Power Supply: The Foundation Of A Great Amplifier

    In amplifier design, everything starts with the power supply. The XPA Gen3 features our new high-current switch mode power supply (SMPS) - a lightweight, powerful, intelligent design capable of delivering over 3 kW of continuous power with absolute reliability and extremely high efficiency. Our cutting edge SMPS offers the dynamic attributes of a classic transformer-based design with none of the drawbacks. Like the best transformer-based power supplies, our SMPS delivers plenty of continuous power to enable our amplifier modules to live up to their full performance potential, and plenty of dynamic power to ensure that musical peaks will never be compressed or limited. However, compared to transformer-based designs, our SMPS is lighter and more efficient; it’s also fully regulated, which ensures optimum performance under a wider range of load conditions.

    The XPA Gen3’s unique differential input stage, with cross-linked current sources, drives a balanced voltage amplification stage, and this advanced input circuitry delivers an incredibly accurate and pure audio signal to the complementary, fully discrete output stage. Low-level musical details and dialogue emerge from a deep black background; musical crescendos are delivered with both stunning impact and precision.     Class A/B Sound Quality Meets Optimized Class H Efficiency

    Both amplifier modules used in the XPA Gen3 utilize a fully analog Class A/B output stage. The High-Powered Single Channel Modules utilize our highly regarded Soft-Switch™ Class H power supply topology, which increases their efficiency significantly without compromising the audio performance you’d expect from an Emotiva amplifier. They operate on a lower supply voltage at low power levels to minimize quiescent power consumption and standby power losses, instantly switching to a higher voltage rail when needed to ensure the signal passes cleanly and without clipping. This process happens on a continuous basis in real time, allowing greater overall efficiency, cooler operation, longer component life, reduced power consumption, and increased reliability. The Stereo Modules each deliver two completely independent channels of pure Class A/B audio power, and sonically are perfectly matched to the High-Powered Single Channel Modules.

    A new approach to amplifier design.

    When we set out to make the new X Series line, we analyzed everything in every amplifier we’ve ever made, from front to back, inside, and out. In doing so, we discovered several areas where our years of experience, and advances in audio technology, indicated that we could make significant improvements in our amplifier designs. After carefully weighing all the pros and cons, we kept the best features of our original designs, added a new set of optimizations and improvements, and the result became the foundation of our new line of audiophile amplifiers. The XPA Gen 3 is a whole new ballgame.

    Modular Construction

    The XPA Gen3 modular power amplifier is comprised of a heavy-duty chassis, which houses the oversized power supply, and up to seven amplifier modules. The XPA Gen3 can be purchased with anywhere between two and seven amplifier modules installed, and additional amplifier modules may be installed as more channels of amplification are needed (up to a maximum of seven modules). The front panel display and protection system are designed to work with the maximum number of channels, and so need not be updated when the XPA Gen3 is expanded; on the rear panel, slots not occupied by amplifier modules will be covered with protective cover panels.

    Note: To ensure that amplifier channels are always installed properly, and function to our specifications, amplifier modules must be installed by Emotiva, or by your local authorized Emotiva service representative.

    Flexible Signal Connections and Power Options

    • Gold plated five-way speaker binding posts with clear shields allow you to use a wide range of speaker cables with bare wires, lugs, or banana plugs.

      Note: The values shown refer to the amount of power the amplifier would
      consume while playing test tones continuously, on all channels, at full
      power, into a load bank. Therefore they are not at all characteristic of
      what you would expect when playing music or the sound track from a
      movie. Normal audio signals are dynamic, so the amount of power they
      require from second to second varies widely, and the average is far
      lower than this. With normal content, even playing very loudly, one of
      our amplifiers will consume far less power than indicated in the
      chart, so these values should not be considered to be a circuit
      requirement for normal operation.

    The Output Power your XPA Gen3 amplifier can deliver with all channels driven will depend on the total number and type of modules you have configured. Emotive Build Your Own

We were rebuilding and needed amplification for height and rear speakers. A national consultant recommended Emotiva, and we are so happy we took that recommendation! We purchased the build-your-own FOUR-0. I'll include the preliminary photo; we are still quoting on the built-ins to hold everything. The sound is perfect and the look is complimentary to our setup. Okay, the latter is a wife comment; the former is much more important. I'd buy again if we set up another listening area.

XPA Gen 3 Seven 3-2

Just Wow! Way more than I expected. Listening to Stereo with this amp is literally like being right there with the musicians. When used for Home Theater it is just spectacular how much more detail I get when using this amp as compared to m old Carver THX amp. So happy I got this!

8-channel X-series build your own amp

I was quite pleased with the 8 channel X-series, build your own amp that was built for me. I needed 8 channels with XLR connectors for my 11.2 system sound system. High power is not a requirement for these speakers so four of their stereo modules worked great for me. I have purchased two different 5 channel power amps from Emotiva in the past and all units have been trouble free. Highly recommended for audiophile/videophiles like me.

High quality sound and build!

Have two eMotiva XPA 3 amps powering two different sound setups. An 11 Channel Home Theatre comprised of Martin Logan Expressions, and a 5 Channel setup powering a Martin Logan Impression setup. Both I can confidently say are perfectly powered with outstanding detail that compliment the Martin Logan fidelity without breaking the bank like other Class A amplifiers. They run very cool and are highly efficient power wise. Couldn't be happier with these units. Having the customization options to match to your surrounds is invaluable. Highly recommend!
