Product Overview

The XPA-DR2 is a fully balanced, fully differential two-channel power amplifier featuring two Differential Reference™ amplifier modules. Connect it to a stereo preamp, AV processor, or an AV receiver with preamp outputs, select balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA on each channel, and you are in business. Clean signal in, serious power out, with less strain on your system.

Inside, each channel uses a fully discrete, dual differential, high current, short signal path Class A/B output stage, backed by an Optimized Class H™ power supply topology and a high-efficiency SMPS. Protection is microprocessor-controlled, so it stays out of the way during normal listening but steps in fast when something is wrong.

Power (both channels driven): 550 W/ch into 8 ohms, or 800 W/ch into 4 ohms, at <0.1% THD.

Common uses:

• No-compromise two-channel systems with demanding speakers
• Front left and right channels in a serious home theater
• More headroom for cleaner dynamics at real listening levels

Important: This is a fully balanced amplifier with floating, differential outputs. Never tie output terminals together or reference them to ground.

Differential Reference™ Design

Our Differential Reference design uses a fully differential signal path, amplifying both halves of the audio signal separately to help reduce noise and distortion. The result is powerful dynamics, smooth detail, and natural imaging.

Quality Construction

Built with high-quality parts for long-term reliability, the XPA-DR2 features a heavy steel 4RU chassis, milled aluminum faceplate, machined gold-plated RCA connectors, and modular construction that lets you add channels as your system grows. Designed, assembled, and tested in Franklin, Tennessee.

Flexible System Integration

Five-way binding posts support bare wire, lugs, and banana plugs, while each channel offers balanced or unbalanced inputs. Remote trigger connections, worldwide 100–250 VAC operation, and a standard IEC power inlet make integration simple in a wide range of systems.

Protection

Transparent fault protection helps protect the amplifier and connected equipment without affecting normal listening, while a resettable rear-panel circuit breaker provides additional protection from AC line faults. A five-year warranty adds long-term peace of mind.

FAQ

It’s a two-channel Differential Reference™ power amplifier that combines fully balanced circuitry, massive power reserves, and vanishingly low distortion. Built for no-compromise stereo or front-channel performance, it delivers breathtaking dynamics with superb detail and imaging.

Each channel uses a perfectly symmetrical pair of amplifier modules working together as a balanced differential stage. This cancels out residual nonlinearities, lowers distortion even further, and produces astonishing clarity. The result is a black background, lifelike dynamics, and effortless control over demanding speakers.

The DR2 is ideal for a reference-level stereo system, or for powering the left and right mains in a high-end home theater. It’s the amp of choice when you want both power and finesse for the channels that matter most.

The DR2 delivers 550 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 800 watts per channel into 4 ohms, with both channels driven. Its high-current design ensures stability with real-world speakers and headroom for the most demanding material.

Yes. The DR2 chassis can house up to three Differential Reference Modules. It ships with two, and a third can be added later by Emotiva or an authorized service center if your needs grow.

Absolutely. Each channel offers both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs, selectable by rear toggle switches. A 12V trigger input and output make integration with AVRs and processors simple.

The XPA-DR2 is available in two chassis depths: Full-size: 17” wide x 8” high x 19” deep, 42.5 lbs unboxed. Compact: 17” wide x 8” high x 15” deep, lighter for tighter spaces.

Like all X Series amplifiers, the DR2 is engineered with premium components, robust SMPS power supply technology, and precision Class A/B output stages with Soft-Switch™ Class H efficiency. It’s backed by a 5-year factory warranty and Emotiva’s U.S.-based support team in Franklin, Tennessee.
