The BasX A5+ Five-Channel Power Amplifier adds dedicated amplification to your main home theater speakers: left, center, right, and surrounds. That takes the load off your receiver, so it can focus on processing and control instead of trying to power everything at once. The payoff is cleaner dynamics, clearer dialogue, and a system that stays composed when scenes get loud.

The A5+ is rated at 95 watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms (20 Hz to 20 kHz, all channels driven, THD < 0.02%). Inside, a fully discrete Class A/B output stage and a linear power supply with a heavy duty toroidal transformer deliver stable, confident power without sounding edgy or strained.

The major BasX Plus upgrade is connectivity. The A5+ includes balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs on every channel, so it pairs easily with everything from traditional AVRs to fully balanced processors. If your gear supports XLR, it can help keep things quieter, especially with longer cable runs. If not, RCA has you covered.

Built-in protection guards against common fault conditions, 12V trigger connections make system power control easy, and the A5+ is rated for 8 ohm speakers while supporting 4 ohm operation.

Common uses:

  • Power a full 5.1 system with a processor or an AVR with PRE OUTs
  • Upgrade an AVR by powering the main five speakers for more headroom and control

The A5+ is a five-channel power amplifier. It takes the audio signal from your receiver or processor and provides the power that drives your speakers.

It can power five speakers at once, usually your front left, center, front right, and two surround speakers.

It will work if your receiver has preamp outputs, often labeled “PRE OUT.” Those outputs send the audio signal to an external amplifier like the A5+. If your receiver does not have preamp outputs, the A5+ is not the right match.

The A5+ is rated at 95 watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with all channels driven, and THD less than 0.02%.

Yes. It is rated for 8-ohm loads and has a minimum load impedance of 4 ohms.

Connectivity. Every channel includes both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs.

Use XLR if your processor or receiver has balanced outputs. It can help reject noise, especially with longer cable runs. Use RCA for standard compatibility with most gear.

No. On each channel, the XLR and RCA inputs remain active and are summed at the input. Use only one input type per channel.

No. Auto-On is only available on the BasX A2+, A3+, and A2L+. The A5+ is turned on with the front Standby button or by using a 12V trigger.

When the trigger input sees 5 to 12 volts (AC or DC), the amp switches on from standby. When the trigger signal is removed, it returns to standby. The trigger output provides 12V DC to turn on other devices. (Trigger input requires less than 10 mA. Trigger output can drive up to 120 mA.)

The A5+ uses 5-way binding posts, so banana plugs, spades, or bare wire all work.

Give it good airflow and do not block the vents. The Class A/B output stage can generate substantial heat when operating at high power for extended periods.

No. It operates on 115V or 230V at 50/60 Hz and automatically detects and configures itself for your local line voltage.

You get the amplifier, a high quality commercial AC power cable, a trigger cable, and a printed user manual.
