Product Overview

How much performance fits in ten inches? Tons.

The Differential Reference® Design Series Stack includes four beautifully matched components: a streamer, a DAC (digital-to-analog converter), a stereo preamp, and a power amplifier. Each has its own compact case, identical in size and style, so they form a tidy tower of power on your shelf. You save space and still get serious muscle and performance.

Inside, a fully balanced Differential Reference® layout lowers noise and preserves detail. Voices sound lifelike, bass stays tight, and dynamics feel effortless. Use the Volumio® app to play Qobuz, ® TIDAL®, and more with a lifetime Premium license included. For TV audio, connect one HDMI cable to the DAC’s HDMI-ARC input. Trigger links let everything power on together for one-touch ease.

Key specs: 100 watts x 2 at 8 ohms, 130 x 2 at 4 ohms, or 400 bridged; ESS ES9038Q2M; SNR up to 120 dB; THD+N as low as 0.0008 percent. Translation: dead quiet with big headroom.

With the purchase of the full stack, you get built-in savings and a free Cable Kit ($100 value) with Emotiva XLR, trigger, and digital coax cables.

FAQ

The Stack brings together four matching components: the DRS-1 Streamer & Media Hub, DRD-1 DAC, DRP-1 Stereo Preamp, and DRA-1 Stereo Amplifier. Each uses the same compact 10.5-inch-wide chassis format, creating a complete component stereo system in a much smaller footprint than traditional full-width separates.

You don't have to use an external DAC with the DRS-1, but the DRD-1 gives the complete system a dedicated digital conversion stage plus additional digital inputs. That includes USB-C for computer audio, optical and coaxial S/PDIF, and HDMI-ARC for stereo TV sound. When used together, the DRS-1 can send its digital output to the DRD-1 for conversion.

The DRD-1 has fixed-level outputs. The DRP-1 adds the volume control, analog source switching, MM/MC phono stage, subwoofer output, and analog bass management needed to bring all of your sources together and safely control the system.

A straightforward full-stack signal path runs from the DRS-1's digital output to the DRD-1, then from the DRD-1 to the DRP-1, and from the DRP-1 to the DRA-1. Your speakers connect to the DRA-1. A TV can connect directly to the DRD-1 through HDMI-ARC, while a turntable can connect directly to the DRP-1.

Yes. The Differential Reference components include trigger connections that can be linked together, allowing the system to coordinate power-on and standby operation instead of requiring you to switch each component individually.

The same handheld remote can control both the DRD-1 DAC and DRP-1 preamp, including power, display brightness, and their respective input functions. The DRS-1 is controlled through the Volumio app, a web browser, or its on-screen interface, while the DRA-1 can follow the system through its trigger connection.

Yes. Connect a powered subwoofer to the DRP-1's balanced XLR subwoofer output. Its built-in 80 Hz analog high-pass and low-pass filters let you divide bass between the main speakers and subwoofer. You can also configure the filters independently if you prefer to use the crossover controls built into your subwoofer.

Yes. The DRP-1 includes a phono stage for both Moving Magnet and Moving Coil cartridges. A compatible turntable can connect directly to the phono input without a separate phono preamp. If your turntable already provides a line-level output, connect it to one of the DRP-1's regular RCA line inputs instead.

Yes. Connect the ARC port on a compatible TV to the HDMI-ARC input on the DRD-1. The DRD-1 accepts stereo PCM audio. A compatible TV may select the correct format automatically, but if necessary, set its digital audio output to stereo PCM rather than Dolby Digital, DTS, or another multichannel format.

Yes. The DRS-1 can play music stored on connected USB storage or compatible network-attached storage, giving you access to your own digital music library alongside streaming services.

No. Volumio Premium features are included with the DRS-1. You will need a Volumio account during setup, and individual music services such as Qobuz, TIDAL, or Spotify may require their own accounts or subscriptions.

Yes. Add a second DRA-1 and switch both amplifiers to bridged mono operation. Each speaker can then have its own dedicated DRA-1, with each amplifier capable of delivering 365 watts RMS into 8 ohms or 400 watts RMS into 4 ohms in bridged mode.

No. Each Differential Reference component can work as a standalone part of another audio system. You can use the complete Stack from day one or build your system one component at a time.

The full Stack includes the Differential Reference Design Series Cable Kit with Emotiva XLR, trigger, and digital coaxial cables for connecting the DR components together. You'll still need speaker cable for your speakers, an HDMI cable if you're connecting a TV through ARC, and an Ethernet cable if you choose a wired network connection.

Each Differential Reference component in the Stack is covered by Emotiva's five-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Coverage begins on the original retail purchase date and may be transferred to another owner during the original five-year term. See Emotiva's warranty terms for complete coverage details.
