The Airmotiv B1+ is a two way, bookshelf monitor loudspeaker, featuring a 32mm Airmotiv folded ribbon tweeter and a 5-1/4” woven fiber woofer. A pair of Airmotiv B1+ monitors can be used in a small, high-quality two-channel system, of a set of five or seven can be used in a high quality surround sound system for a small room installation. Another option would be to use a pair of Airmotiv B1+ monitors for your front left and right speakers, and combine them with Airmotiv E1’s for your surrounds, with or without an additional Airmotiv E1 as a wall mounted center channel speaker.
Airmotiv Passive Loudspeakers: Music Runs in the Family
Your speakers are the single most important component in your audio system; they’re the part that turns a simple electrical signal into the emotional experience that is music. Great speakers can transform an audio system that’s merely good into one that can deliver a truly transcendent listening experience. Our new Airmotiv passive loudspeakers represent the culmination of years of research and experience in producing both home and professional loudspeakers, and were designed from the ground up with this critical mission in mind. They were designed from the start to be equally at home in an audiophile stereo system or a high-end home theater, and combine excellent technical performance, superb sound quality, elegant good looks, and excellent value. Our design philosophy is simple: If a speaker can reproduce the entire audible spectrum, as accurately as possible, with very little distortion or coloration, then it will sound good – whether you’re playing classical music, rock, or your favorite blockbuster movie.
All of the members of our Airmotiv Passive Loudspeaker family combine meticulous design, extensive testing, and in-depth listening tests with a wide variety of musical material, to deliver the best possible technical performance and sound quality. Our Airmotiv™ high-frequency transducers deliver flat frequency response, low distortion, virtually nonexistent signal compression, smooth off-axis response, superb transparency, and uncanny imaging. Advanced woven fiber midrange drivers deliver smooth frequency response, and detailed lifelike midrange with very low coloration, and our woofers include high-temperature voice coils and vented pole pieces to ensure crisp bass at all listening levels. Carefully designed precision crossovers, crafted with audiophile quality film capacitors, air core inductors, and precision resistors in critical locations, tie it all together. And, finally, our custom cabinets are crafted from thick, heavily braced, acoustically inert HDF to ensure maximum rigidity and resistance to stray vibration, with a front panel machined from a solid slab of 25mm HDF. The faceted front panel design, borrowed from our studio monitors, not only adds a stylishly futuristic look to our Airmotiv speakers, but also serves a very practical purpose – to minimize diffraction effects and room interactions.
Airmotiv Sound Quality
Of course, the goal of all that design and testing is to produce a speaker that sounds really great and, after extensive listening tests, we’re pleased to report that our new Airmotiv Passive Loudspeakers sound truly superb with all types of music – from individual vocalists and intimate jazz ensembles, to full classical orchestras, to heavy metal bands and synthetic electronica. Just pair your Airmotiv Loudspeakers with any high-quality power amplifier (we think ours sound especially good), and you’ll get perfectly balanced sound, with outstanding clarity, and superb rendition of even the finest details. All of the speakers in the Airmotiv Passive Loudspeaker family are carefully timbre matched to work well together and to deliver a cohesive audio image in any stereo or surround sound installation. The B1+ features an updated crossover that offers smoother midrange performance. (The new models are still perfectly timbre matched with the original Airmotiv Passive Loudspeaker models and will harmonize perfectly if used alongside them.)
Phenomenal sound quality and great specs alone don’t make a great speaker, which is why we’ve included a long list of practical and convenient operational features on our Airmotiv Loudspeakers. The front bezel is finished with multiple coats of attractive satin finish black lacquer, which looks elegant while resisting fingerprints and scratches, and the sides are covered with tough, good-looking textured black vinyl. And, for those of you who prefer to keep their technology under wraps, all of our new Airmotiv speakers include removable, magnetically-attached, grilles.

I bought these speakers to use in a two channel system to replace some very old Infinity bookshelf speakers that failed, blown woofer. I liked the small size but was a bit worried how light they were. The associated equipment is an Emotiva A-100 amp, Adcom GFP-500 preamp, Denon DVD player (for cd use), and an old Pioneer turntable. Also have a Outlaw Audio BT-100 bluetooth module to play music from my iphone. These speakers sound really clear. The tweeter is amazing. Overall smooth and dynamic sound quality. They do require a sub if you are critical though they put out tight bass for their size. I may add one in the future, but maybe not. Really enjoying these speakers. Highly recommended.
The price to performance on these are killer. I came from Micca RB42s, although great and has tons of bass, it lacks on the upper end and it's more of a long throw set. The B1+ fits my desk setup perfectly, and also pair it with the Airmotiv S8, and you'll get the whole range.
I moved into a small-ish apartment a couple of years ago due to worsening traffic / commute times. And while a shorter commute is great, it also means my bulky old ADS speakers are fairly cramped in my space. They're in the way, and their bass response is a bit ripe for such a small room. I'd been intending to just put up with the situation until I could (hopefully) someday get a house, but then I saw Steven Guttenberg's review of the B1+. I hadn't intended to buy a new pair of speakers yet, but his hearty recommendation combined with the B1+'s shockingly reasonable price won me over, and I'm glad they did. The B1+ renders textures and transients with greater detail than my old ADS, something that no speaker I've heard near the B1+'s price has done before, and they throw a larger soundstage with more precise imaging. The ADS don't have what you'd call a "holographic" center image, but the B1+'s absolutely do, more than any other speaker I've heard under $500. The B1+ also doesn't overwhelm my little living room. Their bass is tight, punchy, and surprisingly well extended for a very compact speaker. Because I try my best to be a good apartment neighbor, and because my building leaks sound pretty readily between units, the B1+ don't even begin to sweat at the highest volumes I turn them to. Considering how completely unphased they are at these volumes, I expect they can go surprisingly loud for their size without losing their composure. I'm very glad I stumbled on them at a time when they were in stock. They really are wonderful apartment speakers. They play perfectly in my space, and they're far less in the way than my old closet-bound ADS were. As impressed as I am with the B1+, I'm thinking that when I manage to move into a house they'll simply become rear L/R channels and I'll add in Emotiva's T1+ and C1+ for a full 5-channel surround setup.
These mighty black boxes punch much higher than there MSRP. Especially the tweeter, it is crystal clear and has very good separation of instruments. Midrange is strong, but a little laid back compared to the tweeter, but in a good way. I am using them as rears, but would be perfect for a full system, with a powerful subwoofer. Overall, bass is good for its size, but I always suggest with anything. Buy now and enjoy!
Great “bookshelf speakers”. I currently have an entire7.2 M.L. Theatre system, wanted to test the B1+ Speakers against my other satellites. So far so good. Emotiva B1+ Build : equal if not slightly better Sound: have not full broke them in. However very happy with choice. Grills: look great but magnets have small amount of play. M.L. 15i Performance: equal Highs: slightly better. (Perhaps because, B1+ are not fully broke in)? Price: Hands down a large negative Factor
