FAQ

The DRS-1 is a two-channel network music streamer and media hub built around the Volumio platform. It includes an ESS ES9038Q2M DAC, balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog outputs, optical and coaxial digital outputs, wired Ethernet, WiFi, USB connectivity, and an HDMI video output.

No. Volumio Premium features are included with the DRS-1, so you do not need to purchase a separate Volumio Premium subscription. You will need to create or connect a Volumio account during setup. Music services such as Qobuz, TIDAL, or Spotify may require their own accounts or subscriptions.

The DRS-1 gives you access to Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect, Spotify, internet radio, Bluetooth audio, and other playback options available through the Volumio platform. You can also play your own music from USB storage or network-attached storage.

No. The DRS-1 has its own ESS ES9038Q2M DAC and provides both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog outputs. If you already own a DAC, or want to pair the DRS-1 with the DRD-1, you can use its coaxial or optical digital outputs instead.

The balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog outputs are variable-level and can be controlled through Volumio. The coaxial and optical digital outputs operate at a fixed level.

You can control the DRS-1 from the Volumio app on a compatible phone or tablet, or through a web browser on a device connected to your network. You can also connect a display through HDMI and use a USB mouse or keyboard for on-screen control.

Yes. The DRS-1 supports wired Ethernet as well as WiFi. Initial setup is normally completed over WiFi using the Volumio app. Once setup is complete, you can use a wired Ethernet connection for everyday streaming and network access.

The HDMI connection is a video output for displaying the Volumio interface, album artwork, track information, and system information on a TV or monitor. Connect the display before powering on the DRS-1. The HDMI connection is not an HDMI digital-audio or I2S connection and should never be connected to an I2S input or output.

Yes. Connect a USB flash drive or hard drive, or access music stored on compatible network-attached storage. Supported file types include WAV, FLAC, MP3, OGG, AAC, DSF, and DFF at standard and high-resolution sample rates.

Yes. The DRS-1 includes both a trigger input and trigger output, allowing it to be controlled by another trigger-enabled component or to pass a trigger signal along to the rest of your system.

The DRS-1 is covered by Emotiva's five-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Coverage begins on the original retail purchase date and may be transferred to another owner during the original five-year term. See Emotiva's warranty terms for complete coverage details.

Use the HDMI output of the DRS-1 to showcase Volumio's OS on screen featuring live album artwork and artist information.

The DRS-1 uses an ESS Sabre DAC with several selectable digital filters. Each filter uses a different method for oversampling and reconstructing the audio signal, which can produce small differences in transient response, high-frequency behavior, and overall sound character. Access them in Playback Options → Advanced Audio Settings. Try each one to find your preference—differences are often subtle and subjective. These filters affect only the analog outputs (XLR and RCA), not digital outputs.

If you have "Auto-Update" turned on in the settings, it will update itself automatically whenever a new version is available. If it's turned off, just go to System Settings and tap "Check Updates" to do it manually.
